This glossary contains the commons words people use in my field of study daily. You are surely going to learn some new words and definition.
accused

A person or group of people who are charged with or on trial for a crime.
Example: He was accused of stealing.

A claim or assertion that someone has done something illegal or wrong, typically one made without proof.
Example: I have an allegation against him.

appellant
noun
A person who applies to a higher court for a reversal of the decision of a lower court.
Example: This appellant was not satisfied with the final decision.

argument
noun
A reason or set of reasons given with the aim of persuading others that an action or idea is right or wrong.
Example: This lawyer has a good argument.

assault

Make a physical attack on.
Example: He was arrested because he assaults someone.

Civil Code of Quebec
noun
The civil code in force in the Province of Quebec, Canada, witch came into effect on January 1, 1994.
Example: In civil law, the most important code is the Civil code of Quebec.

clause
noun
A particular and separate article, stipulation, or proviso in a treaty, bill, or contract.
Example: This clause is very abusive.

common law

The part of English law that is derived from custom and judicial precedent rather than statutes. Often contrasted with statutory law.
Example: A lot of our justice principles are based on the Common law.

constitutional law
noun
The body of law which defines the relationship of different entities within a state, namely, the executive, the legislature, and the judiciary.
Example: The Constitution law is very important because it defines our justice system.

court
noun
A tribunal presided over by a judge, judges, or a magistrate in civil and criminal cases.
Example: Yesterday, I was at the court to plaid guilty.

criminal record
noun
A history of being convicted for crime.
Example: He doesn't have a criminal record so his sentence will be shorter.

debtor
noun
A person or institution that owes a sum of money.
Example: This debtor owes a lot of money to the bank.

Order or allow a person to go.
Example: His case was dismiss so he left.

evidence

Matter produced before a court of law in an attempt to prove or disprove a point of issue, such as the statements or witnesses, documents, material objects.
Example: The state attorney has all the evidences against him.

grand jury
noun
A jury, typically of twenty-three people, selected to examine the validity of an accusation before trial.
Example: The Grand jury has made his decision, and they are sure about it.

Culpable of or responsible for a specified wrongdoing.
Example: He decided to plaid guilty at the last minute.

An opportunity to state one's case.
Example: The hearing was yesterday and a lot of people was present at the Court.

The theory or philosophy of law.
Example: In this field of study we have to read a lot of jurisprudence for our cases.

jurist
noun
An expert in or writer on law.
Example: This jurist wrote an excellent jurisprudence and it shows he's an expert.

The system of rules which a particular country or community recognizes as regulating the actions of its members and which it may enforce by the imposition of penalties.
Example: When you don't respect the law you can have some bad consequences.
